Find Insurance Canada is an information and referral website about personal insurance in Canada. This page explains who runs the guides, how they are written and checked, how the site is paid and what happens to the details you send.

What is Find Insurance Canada?

Find Insurance Canada explains life, health, dental, home, auto and critical illness insurance for Canadians and helps readers request quotes. We are not an insurance company, an agent or a broker. We do not sell, quote, bind or renew any policy, and nothing on this site is insurance, legal or financial advice.

How are our guides written and checked?

Every guide is written by the Find Insurance Canada editorial team and checked against primary sources before it goes live.

  • Sources: we use government and regulator pages first (provincial regulators, public auto insurers, the Government of Canada), then insurer policy wordings. We link the source where a rule or number appears.
  • Numbers: a figure appears on the site only if we could confirm it on a primary source on the day we published or updated the page.
  • Dates: each guide shows when it was published and when it last changed. We change the “last updated” date only when the content changes.
  • No invented experts: our guides carry the editorial team byline. We do not use made up author names, credentials or reviews.
  • Corrections: if you find an error, write to us and we will check it against the source and fix the page.

How does Find Insurance Canada make money?

The site earns referral fees. When you send the quote form, your request goes to our referral partner, which connects you with licensed insurance representatives. The partner may pay us a fee for the referral or when a policy is sold. You pay nothing extra for using this site, and a fee never decides what we write about a type of insurance.

Who gives you the quote?

Quotes come from insurance representatives licensed in your province or territory, or from the insurers they work with. Insurance is regulated provincially. In Ontario the Financial Services Regulatory Authority licenses agents and brokers, in Quebec the Autorité des marchés financiers does, and every other province has its own regulator or insurance council. The Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators lists them all. You can ask any representative for their licence number and check it with the regulator.

What happens to the details you send?

The quote form on our pages is run by our referral partner. The partner’s name, privacy policy and terms appear inside the form, and you must agree to them before you submit. Your details go to the partner and the licensed representatives it works with so they can contact you about the coverage you asked for. The form does not ask about your medical history. Read our privacy policy for what this website itself collects.

What we will never do

  • Promise a price, a coverage decision or an approval. Only the insurer decides those.
  • Present an insurer’s advertising as our own review.
  • Rank or recommend a type of coverage because it pays us more.
  • Sell your contact details to anyone other than the referral partner named in the form.

Where can you complain about an insurer?

Complain to the insurer first and ask for its final written answer. For life and health insurance, including dental and critical illness plans, the OmbudService for Life and Health Insurance is free and independent. For home and auto insurance, the General Insurance OmbudService handles complaints in most provinces. Complaints about this website go to info@findinsurancecanada.ca.
